The Game

This demo game is currently a prototype of a unique crafting system intended for a future RPG. The unique element is that the weapons you can craft are not all just carbon copies of each other but are each truly unique, every piece is hand-forged by you, the Smith. With this system, you can not only craft items that are unique visually but they are also functionally unique, each design choice, every blow of the hammer will affect how the weapon performs in combat!

To craft a weapon the Smith first needs to select the iron. Then this is heated in the forge, operating the bellows to speed things up.  Next, the iron is taken to the anvil, where the smith undergoes the work of forging the piece into whatever their mind conceives.  - So far this is all that the demo includes, just about everything is a WIP.

Warning

Please note this is not intended as a functioning game or even a full minigame, it really is more of a single feature from a future planned RPG extracted and prototyped. In the full game, this is intended to be one of many integrated game systems which all interact with each other. So if you want to leave any feedback, which would be very welcome, then please leave it on the grounds of what about this demo as a crafting system could be improved, added to, or modified for a better player experience.

Thanks!

this is fantastic, I wish I could fight in some rpg with custom made sword instead of pre-made, that would be stunning

Hmm... It's an interesting mechanic, I do think!

I have a few thoughts:

First, I do like the variety that it can produce, and the manual feel of it!

It is perhaps a pity that the system doesn't support some of the more unusual styles of blade--or indeed, blades other than swords and daggers--but what it does provide is pretty neat, I do think.

That said, it does call for quite an investment of time and effort on the part of the player. And not only that, it calls for the player to spend a significant amount of time away from the rest of the game.

Thus, if I were engaging in this as part of a larger game, I think that I'd want the results to be rather better than anything that I might acquire by looting.

On a similar note, as it stands the mechanic does feel like an awful lot of clicking. For which Two ideas occur to me:

* First, that the effect of a single strike be exaggerated, thus requiring fewer clicks.

* and second, that striking the blade be done simply by holding down the mouse-button, ending when the button is released, thus reducing the number of individual presses involved.

The former of those--increasing the impact of each strike--might also aid in conveying the effect (if any?) of heating the blade.

All that said, I feel like this could be pretty cool in the right game! ^_^

First off, thanks so much for your feedback!

We do have a lot of plans for the system, firstly there are already axes, warhammers and spears waiting to be added but an additional system is needed for the hafting. Are there any specific type of more unusual swords you were wanting to see? Or any other weapons in general?

At the moment the temperature of the sword effects the amount of change that each strike has. We do need something else too though such as click and hold or perhaps the option to do a stronger strike.

The plans for the game it would be part of are still in development and somewhat secret at the moment, but we would have ways to make the investment in forging quality weapons worth the time investment.

Thanks again for your engagement, it's super encouraging the someone taken the time to play our little feature demo!

It's my pleasure! I hope that some of it has been helpful. ^_^

Ah, I'm glad to read that you have weapons other than swords already in the works! (Already being forged, one might say. ;P)

As to more-unusual swords (well, dagger-like things), the one that springs to mind is something like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mambele

But more generally, multi-bladed weapons and the like: think of Darth Maul's two-ended sword from the Star Wars prequel trilogy, or The Kurgan's pronged sword from Highlander (see here: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091203/mediaviewer/rm954182401/ )

Otherwise, it sounds like you have things in hand. ^_^

Noted! We are working on the crafting first but this is on the docket.

I also accidentally deleted my first reply, sorry!
